Hi guys!
When my grandfather passed away, he gave an '86 Mustang GT to my father. My dad eventually got a new car and gave it to me. By the time I got it, it had spent around 2 decades on the salty NYC roads which had taken quite its toll. It was painted in the late 90s, and that shop did a terrible job. Because of its rough life, I affectionately called it the Rustang.
I had stripped it down to a bare shell in hopes that I can replace the rotted sheet metal and build my ultimate dedicated drag car. Since we all know how life changes our best laid plans, I think it's time to let it go.
I really don't want to scrap it, but I don't know if it's worth selling. Take a peak at the pics and let me know what you guys think. Can I sell it, how much do you think?
The engine bay is 100% stripped of everything, the hydraulic brake lines and booster were removed from the car because the hard lines were so corroded they actually burst. The bottom of the doors and the rear hatch are completely rusted, so they'll have to be replaced. The front fenders are pretty rusted but they're unbolted. The fuel tank is removed, fuel lines etc. I pretty much tore it down to the bare chassis, with the front subframe still bolted, and the rear end till in place so the thing can roll.
The floor pan needs to be replaced (there's holes in it), but the worst thing is the bottom of the A pillars have some serious rust issues.

Scrap it.

part it, then scrap the rusty shell. Doors, hood, bumpers etc, should all be pretty easy to move if they have no rust

It's already been parted. The door shells are in terrible shape. The bumpers are okay, I guess. Hood is pretty much the only part that doesn't have rust!

Problem is scrapping is usually by weight. If you've removed the engine, you're barely going to get anything by selling it to a scrap yard. Possibly $100.
Why don't you list it for sale, with the usual $500 OBO. Write your ad honestly, and prepare for the lowball offers to roll in. Around here (ontario) if you drive a car into a scrap yard you get $200. If anyone out there low balls you something north of $200 I'd take it.
Unless you need the car gone pronto, you really have nothing to lose by listing it online. Worst case, noone offers anything the car sits another two weeks and you scrap it.

You should be able to get $500.

Post it on one of the 4-eye forums. You scrap one of those things and you might end up with a mob with torches and pitchforks at your front door at 3am.
Even with the rust, it's a potential race car for road course or drag.

You've passed my energies that I would have had for this project.

so I found the scrap yard offered me $250 for a "car", and they didnt care how much it weighed or how complete it was. so if you can get $40 for a hood, then you'll be at $290. As an example.

find a cheap V8 and tranny, weld up a rollcage, put a seat it in and LeMons it

I was thinking the same thing. Race cars dont have to be pretty just functional.

I would love for someone to do that, I can't.

List it for 500, might find someone interested in a lemon/chump build that they will tear up at the track anyway. i mean youve already got it torn down enough to cage it basically

Where are you located and do you still have the dash shell, front and rear bumpers?

NYC. No dash shell, I have the front and rear bumpers with supports

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't mind having the bumpers for spares, but I'm in MO, so the shipping would probably be too costly.
